We often refer to systems as the nonverbal communication, or body language, of the business.  The systems in a business speak volumes to staff and customers about what is important, how things should be done, and the consequences of various actions - this is why systems influence behaviour. Without even realising it, your systems (however unstructured or unarticulated) are influencing your people on a daily basis.  You can improve your efficiency and effectiveness by paying closer attention to what your systems are saying.
